Hormonal acne can cause inflamed, sensitive cysts and nodules which can be extremely tender and take weeks or months to resolve on their own. This type of acne is typically unresponsive to topical treatments but can be injected with a diluted cortisone to drastically decrease inflammation and redness over the course of 72 hours.
